George Clooney and Annette Bening are set to lead Paul Weitz’s next feature In Love, an adaptation of author Amy Bloom’s memoir.
In Love is “an illuminating, modern love story about two people who make an impossible decision together that honors their enduring commitment to each other.”
The film is based on Bloom’s In Love: A Memoir of Love and Loss of her marriage after her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It led to a decision for her husband to end his life on his own terms with the couple traveling to a facility in Switzerland that allowed him to do so.
Weitz and Bloom have written the screenplay together with Weitz producing alongside Andrew Miano through their company Depth of Field. Clooney will also produce through Smokehouse Pictures with Grant Heslov while Eddie Vaisman and Julie Lebedev have developed the film and produce for Sight Unseen. Sébastian Raybaud will produce for Anton, which is financing and handling international rights.
“Amy’s memoir is a contemporary fable of love, wit and existential stakes,” Weitz said. “I can’t wait to do it justice with this amazing cast.”
“I have been so lucky to work with Eddie and Julie, so lucky to write with Paul and so grateful that this story of lasting love gets to be told on the screen, in Paul’s gifted hands, by two of the greatest actors in America,” Bloom said.
Clooney will be seen next in Jay Kelly alongside Adam Sandler [read our review here]. The film will have a limited release in theatres beginning November 15th before premiering on Netflix December 5th. Bening, meanwhile will be seen next in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Frankenstein-inspired The Bride and has been cast in the Yellowstone spin-off continuation The Dutton Ranch with original stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly.
