Harsh, open-world survival ORMOD: Directive coming early 2026

November 26, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Indie developer House 16 Software have announced that their debut title, ORMOD: Directive, will launch on Steam in early 2026. This harsh open-world survival sandbox takes players to a world dominated by hostile machinery where they will scavenge, craft and battle. Watch the trailer below…

This post-apocalyptic sandbox blends classic survival gameplay with automation, base-building, and realistic combat, and places it all in a world that never stops moving forward and evolving. Even when the player is offline, the world will continue to progress.

Every playthrough of the game will generate a unique and customisable world, with a variety of procedurally generated towns, roads, buildings, terrain, and landmarks. Players will be able to survive the way they want in a world that they have tailored to their playstyle and preferred difficulty.

The world is a hostile one, where the threat of the ORMOD progresses steadily and silently. Roaming mechanoids will come out at night and hunt players, so it pays to construct a flexible base that can help defend against them, and other players if played on a PvE server. These bases are made using a flexible tile-based construction system not seen in any other game.

There is a wide range of weapons and equipment for players to discover and modify, plus there’s a variety of different vehicles to repair and travel the map in, including cars and helicopters.

Additionally, the world will occasionally create world-changing encounters, such as helicopter crashes, airdrops or PvP events, that present great opportunities or terrible risks.

Look out for ORMOD: Directive coming to Steam for PC in early 2026.
