First look at Imelda Staunton in Agatha Christie adaptation Tommy & Tuppence

January 13, 2026 by Ricky Church

Britbox has released the first batch of images for Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence, an adaptation following Christie’s detective duo which stars Antonia Thomas (Bagman), Josh Dylan (Masters of the Air) and Imelda Staunton (The Crown). Check out the images below…

Tommy & Tuppence is a modern day adaptation of Christie’s series which followed married couple Thomas Beresford and Prudence L. ‘Tuppence’ Cowley, specifically adapting the short story Partners in Crime. The pair appeared in five of Christie’s stories from 1922 to 1973 and stand among Christie’s more famous detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple who each have appeared in several adaptations themselves.

“In the first contemporary English-language television series adaptation of Agatha Christie’s stories, Tommy and Tuppence are a detective duo for the ages,” BritBox said in a statement. “Thomas will star as Tuppence, an actress and force of nature who won’t take no for an answer. Dylan will co-star as Tommy, a meticulous, charming crime writer who has lost his passion but finds it again when whirlwind Tuppence re-enters his life.”

Staunton will play Aunt Ada, “a wry, retired private detective and funny powerhouse who loves her great nephew, Tommy, because he never undermines her.”

The series was created by Phoebe Eclair-Powell, who wrote and executive produced it. “As a lifelong Agatha fan, it was a dream come true to adapt her Partners in Crime and bring Tommy & Tuppence’s spark into a contemporary world,” she said. “Viewers can expect the high energy sleuthing, caper-ish DNA and romance of the originals, but they have been given such a new lease of life thanks to Antonia and Josh, whose chemistry and delight in the characters just makes it such a joy to watch. And then of course the cherry on top. Imelda Staunton lends such gravitas and wit to the character of Aunt Ada. I know she will become a firm fan favourite. It was an honour to have her at the helm of the show. I hope Agatha would approve!”

The series will also feature Callie Cooke (F1), Nicholas Richardson (Wu-tang: An American Saga), Charlie Condou (Doctor Who), Chizzy Akudolu (Little Disasters), Sebastian De Souza (The Life List), Sean Pertwee (Gotham), Denise Black (Rivals) and Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact).

Tommy & Tuppence will premiere in 2026 for a six-episode series.
