As Amazon and Phoebe Waller-Bridge prepare to film their Tomb Raider series, we now have our first look at Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner as Lara Croft herself.
The image, which Turner also shared on her Instagram, shows her sporting Lara’s iconic look from the classic video games rather than the Survivor origin trilogy, though the series will reportedly use elements of the recent trilogy as well.
Joining Turner is the series is Avatar‘s Sigourney Weaver, who will play Evelyn Wallis, “a mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents”, and The White Lotus‘ Jason Isaacs as Lara’s uncle Atlas de Mornay.
Turner is the third actress to portray Lara Croft in live-action after Angelina Jolie in the two early-2000s films and Alicia Vikander in the 2018 Tomb Raider which adapted the first game of the Survivor trilogy. Hayley Atwell recently voiced her in Netflix’s animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
Waller-Bridge is writing, executive producing and co-showrunning the series with Chad Hodge serving as executive producer and co-showrunner. Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shōgun) will direct and executive produce.
Tomb Raider will feature Sophie Turner, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Bill Paterson, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Celia Imrie, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed and August Wittgenstein.
