Ahead of its world premiere in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival this week, a trailer has arrived online for writer-director Dara Van Dusen’s upcoming drama A Prayer for the Dying.

Based on Stewart O’Nan’s novel of the same name, the film takes place in 1870s Wisconsin and centres on the sheriff of a small town who is faced with the impossible decision of saving his family or defending the community who gave him a second chance at life.

The cast includes Johnny Flynn, John C. Reilly, Kristine Kujath Thorp, and Gustav Lindh. Watch the trailer below…

1870. Friendship: A small Wisconsin town, made up of Scandinavian settlers, is still suffering from the repercussions of the recent Civil War. So when faced with a new and even deadlier threat, one man is forced to make a harrowing choice: save his young family or defend the community that gave him a second chance at life and meaning.
