90s classic City Hunter launches on PC and consoles

February 27, 2026 by Andrew Newton

Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Red Art Games have announced the launch of City Hunter, a remake of the beloved PC Engine game that was released in Japan in 1990. The game, inspired by the first season of Sunrise’s legendary anime tells the story of Tokyo’s renowned ‘cleaner,’ Ryo Saeba, as he takes on a sinister megacorporation. Watch the new launch trailer below….

Ryo Saeba takes on many different kinds of jobs, from protecting attractive women to assassinations. Now, he has to take on a sinister megacorporation that threatens the world’s safety.

This remake of the classic is playable in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish for the first time ever, and comes packed with new game modes, difficulty levels, features and extras. There’s even a tribute to the anime’s original ending theme, with the iconic “Get Wild” being added to the in-game music player.

Players can enjoy the game as it was played back in the day, and an Enhanced Mode fixes some of the issues the game had, such as lag, ineffective projectiles and bugs, while maintaining the difficulty and progression it had. There is also a Hard Mode that includes all of the Enhanced Mode improvements, and changes item placement, the amount of damage inflicted and taken, enemy speed and behaviour, hit boxes, as well as boss fights. This will make the game much harder for those who want more of a challenge.

There has been the addition of several Quality of Life features, including Save States, Rewind, and CRT filter, a bonus Gallery that shows scenes from the anime, key visuals and more, and a music player that includes the game’s soundtrack.

City Hunter is available now Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
