A few months ago it was reported Bradley Cooper was in talks to join the Ocean’s 11 prequel which has been in development at Warner Bros. He would star with Margot Robbie, but a recent shake up may see Cooper do more than act in it should a deal be officially made.
Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung was tapped to direct the prequel, but recently dropped out of the project. This has opened up the possibility for Cooper to step into the director’s chair as well as writing the screenplay. Cooper has taken more of a hand behind the scenes as a producer in the past several years along with directing his remake hit A Star is Born and Maestro.
Cooper’s involvement, even the initial news of his casting, has not been made official yet but it something Robbie and her LuckyChap production company are looking to finalize quickly as production is eyeing a start date later this year. The prequel has already gone through several changes with Robbie originally set to co-star with Ryan Gosling before he left the project, leading to Cooper getting involved. The script was written by Carrie Solomon, though it is unknown if Cooper would merely do his own pass on the screenplay, or a full rewrite.
Details regarding the prequel are few and far between, but it is said to take place in the 1960s in Europe. The original Ocean’s 11 was released in 1960 starring Hollywood’s Rat Pack and then remade in 2001 with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and more, all of them returning for two sequels. A spin-0ff titled Ocean’s 8 featured Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett with Bullock starring as Clooney’s sister, Debbie Ocean.
