Comic Book Review – American Vampire: Second Cycle #2

April 22, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Robb Ghag reviews American Vampire: Second Cycle #2…

“Pearl has made The Preston House a place of peace. But when something comes to threaten that peace, she’ll do anything to protect her young strays. The blockbuster return of AMERICAN VAMPIRE continues here!”

In this Second Cycle of the American Vampire series, we once again catch up with Pearl as she looks for help with the children she has taken under her care. She calls on Cal’, one of the last remaining American Vampires for help, and he comes to the call.

Rafael Albuquerque does an outstanding job on this issue considering it is a transition issue, as we slowly learn more and more about the mysterious Gray Trader. When there is an action scene, Albuquerque doesn’t miss a beat though, and continues to put you right there in the thick of the action. Some of the images are absolutely amazing, and completely lend themselves to cinematic storyteller.

It’s probably why Scott Snyder and he work so well together. The story is truly what pulls you in, and draws you closer, before you realize you’re in the thick of a nest of Vampire Killers.

This series has failed to disappoint and continues on in that tradition with Second Cycle.
