Chris Evans: “If the Avengers were real, I’d be on Team Iron Man”

April 25, 2016 by Scott J. Davis

With the release of Marvel’s latest superhero extravaganza Captain America: Civil War just days away (you can listen to our spoiler-free early verdict here), Flickering Myth has been gearing up to the film’s release by attending the UK press conference in London earlier today.

Scott J. Davis was lucky enough to be in attendance at today’s conference, which was attended by many of the film’s cast including Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Bettany (Vision) and Emily Van Camp (Sharon Carter) as well as Marvel head-honcho Kevin Feige and directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

There was a lot of talent on the stage this afternoon but at the heart of it all was Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, a.k.a. Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr, who were sat front and centre of proceedings as they ought be. One question though was met with somewhat of a surprising answer, when Evans was asked whether if a “real-life Avengers” situation presented itself in present day. The actor said:

“Team Iron Man. There would have to be some sort of responsibility, you have to answer to somebody, you can’t just let this group of vigilantes answer to themselves. The truth is if there really were Avengers I would be Team Iron Man, I would. I mean who wouldn’t?!”

You can listen to the entire audio from the press conference today in the player below, and stay tuned to Flickering Myth for more coverage and interviews from the cast and crew of Captain America: Civil War later this week…

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.
