Director Josh Boone teases New Mutants lineup

May 4, 2016 by James Garcia

While the world still basks in the greatness of Deadpool and the looks ahead to the release of X-Men: Apocalypse, a sprawling X-Men cinematic universe is still in the works behind the scenes at 20th Century Fox. Not only are we getting more sequels like Wolverine 3 and Deadpool 2 and a solo Gambit movie, but we’ll soon be introduced to another team of mutants as well, in the form of The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone’s New Mutants.

Producer Simon Kinberg has teased that the film will have a YA vibe, and rumours have suggested that Alexandra Shipp’s Storm will be in the film, along with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and The Witch actress Anya Taylor-Joy. While we still don’t have a clear picture of what mutants will actually show up, Boone did just leave some enticing clues on his Instagram account. Early this week, he posted several photos with the #newmutants hashtag, featuring six characters from the comics: Warlock, Sunspot (who was played by Adan Canto in X-Men: Days of Future Past), Cannonball, Mirage, Wolfsbane (the role Williams was rumoured for) and Magik (Taylor-Joy’s supposed part).

Of course, this is a far cry from official confirmation, but a tease like this directly from Boone himself is very suggestive that this will indeed be the New Mutants lineup, and that an official announcement is imminent.
