Emily Carmichael and Kira Snyder writing Pacific Rim 2

July 21, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in May of this year it was reported that Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) had been brought in by Legendary to pen the screenplay for Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, the follow-up to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 sci-fi action blockbuster, which is set to explode into cinemas in February 2018.

Well, in an interview over at Ars Technica, indie filmmaker Emily Carmichael (Stryka) has revealed that director Steven DeKnight (Daredevil) has also enlisted her services for the sequel, with Carmichael said to be co-writing the script with Kira Snyder (The 100).

“He told me I was hired to help provide banter, warmth and cleverness,” states Carmichael. “For me the most important thing about a kaiju that there is one moment in the fight where you really feel how big it is. The correct size for a kaiju is bigger than you ever thought possible. I have been writing action sequences my whole life and when I sat down to write them for screenplays it came easily and quickly.”

Carmichael is currently attached to write and direct Powerhouse, which is being produced by Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow, and has also been rumoured as a possible contender for the director’s chair on Captain Marvel.

Thanks to FM reader Jayden Briggs for the heads up.
