The Wrap is reporting that Doug Liman is returning to the world of Jumper for a 60-minute pilot for YouTube Red, which will be based upon Impulse, the third novel in Steven Gould’s book series. Liman will direct the pilot, as well as executive producing, with Jeffrey Lieber (Lost) penning the script.
Impulse follows “a rebellious 16-year-old girl, who has always felt different from her peers and has longed to escape from her seemingly quaint small town. When a local drug dealer attempts to assault her, she discovers her extraordinary ability to teleport. This newfound power confirms her conviction that she really is different from everybody else, but it now makes her the focus of those who want to control her.”
Jumper was released in 2008, and featured a cast that included Hayden Christensen, Jamie Bell, Rachel Bilson, Max Thieriot, AnnaSophia Robb, Diane Lane, Michael Rooker, and Samuel L. Jackson. Despite negative reviews, the film was a moderate success at the box office, grossing over $220 million from a budget of $85 million.
In addition to Impulse, YouTube red has also ordered a time-travel sci-fi pilot Lifeline, which is being produced by Dwayne Johnson, along with an eSports sitcom from Community creator Dan Harmon.
