New Cloverfield movie set for October, God Particle taken off schedule

December 8, 2016 by Justin Cook

A few weeks ago, it was revealed that the next entry in the Cloverfield franchise would likely be Julius Onah’s God Particle, which was slated for release on February 24th, 2017. Now, according to Exhibitor Relations, Paramount Pictures has removed God Particle from their schedule and replaced it with an untitled Cloverfield movie set to drop on October 27th, 2017.

Can't keep anything hidden these days. Paramount's 2017 CLOVERFIELD MOVIE (IMAX) drops from the sky October 27, 2017.

To put things in simpler terms, God Particle is most likely the new Cloverfield movie, and Paramount has just decided to be sneaky and try to not alarm anyone as to the fact that they’re one and the same.

Currently, the film is set to compete against Lionsgate’s new Saw film at the box office.

After 2008’s Cloverfield, the series laid dormant for a number of years with talks surfacing every now and then that J.J. Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot, was interested in doing a sequel. It was only until this year that the franchise got rolling again with the critically acclaimed thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was only revealed as the next installment in the franchise about tw0 months before it hit theaters.

Previous reports suggest that the studio and Abrams, won’t be stopping at God Particle and are “quietly developing more movies for the shared universe.”

God Particle/the untitled Cloverfield project features a cast that includes David Oyelowo (Selma), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Concussion), Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager), Daniel Bruhl (Captain America: Civil War), Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids), John Ortiz (Steve Jobs) and Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). Similar to its predecessor, the film will be released on IMAX screens.
