Mark Hamill says his life “would have been so much drabber and less interesting” without Carrie Fisher

January 2, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Last week came the unfortunate news of Carrie Fisher’s heart attack and subsequent death at the young age of 60. Such a monumental loss to the entertainment history has brought out numerous comments and written letters from various other celebrities whose lives she had impacted, including Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.

Although he spoke to Entertainment Weekly shortly after the tragic news, Hamill has now penned a much more detailed Carrie Fisher tribute for The Hollywood Reporter. In the guest column, Hamill writes about being blown away when first meeting Carrie, the unexpected impact Star Wars made on pop culture, her personality full of crazy antics, her ability to make someone feel like the most important person in the world, and more. The entire piece is well worth reading.

“When you were in her good graces, you couldn’t have more fun with any person on the planet. She was able to make you feel like you were the most important thing in her life. I think that’s a really rare quality. And then you could go 180 degrees opposite, where you were furious with one another and wouldn’t speak for weeks and weeks. But that’s all part of what makes a relationship complete. It’s not all one sided. Like I say, she was a handful. She was high maintenance. But my life would have been so much drabber and less interesting if she hadn’t been the friend that she was.”

Carrie Fisher had finished filming Star Wars: Episode VIII before her passing and will be seen again on the big screen one final time this December.
