Regardless of your destination, holidays should be full of fun, excitement and of course, relaxation. One of the best ways to unwind whilst on the road is to kick back and watch a film from the comfort of your hotel bed, deckchair or plane seat. While there are some fantastic blockbusters and classic flicks to be seen, there are also some movies that you should evade at all costs when travelling. To help you avoid that niggling feeling of fear they may provoke, we’ve compiled this list of films that should never make an appearance on the ultrabooks of tech savvy travellers.
Taken
If you’re a young female traveller, Taken is not a good choice of holiday entertainment. This story involves young women in deep jeopardy while on holiday. While former CIA operative Bryan Mills (played by a mega tough Liam Neeson ) manages to rescue his holidaying daughter Kim from the depths of an Albanian human trafficking ring, unless your dad is an ex national spy, the storyline in this film may be a bit too close for comfort.
Titanic
Those embarking on cruise holidays will find it difficult to board the ship after enduring 210 minutes of James Cameron’s epic 1997 remake of Titanic. With spectacular special effects that bring to life the horror of an iceberg collision in the freezing waters of the Atlantic Ocean, it doesn’t leave much to the imagination. And while the love story of Jack and Rose will have you captivated, it’s hard to get rid of that niggling feeling that Leonardo DiCaprio’s swoon-worthy character ends up meeting a watery grave.
Snakes on a Plane
For some, aeroplane travel can be traumatising at the best of times. Whether you’re a seasoned jetsetter or a panicky flyer, this 2006 production won’t do you any favours. If you’re planning on watching films whilst flying, it pays to have a compact and travel friendly laptop such as a Toshiba Ultrabook. Hostel
Written, produced and directed by Eli Roth, this film follows the story of three young backpackers with their sights set on a notorious Slovakian hostel supposedly filled with beautiful women. Yet upon arrival, things quickly start to turn gruesome for the three young men. Featuring chainsaws, severed limbs, abandoned factories and piles of corpses, Hostel is definitely one to avoid when on the road.
Psycho
Notorious as one of the most shocking horror films of all time, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho will put you off staying in motels for good. The world famous shower scene will also have you thinking twice about whether or not you’ve locked your hotel room door.
Wolf Creek
If you’re setting of on a road trip, Wolf Creek should be avoided at all costs. Set in the Australian outback, it revolves around three backpackers who accept the help of a seemingly friendly local when their car breaks down. Little do they know that they have placed themselves in the hands of a crazed serial killer.
If you’re dreaming of a wonderfully relaxing holiday, it’s probably best to avoid these terror inducing movies and stick with using your ultrabook to watch classic feel good holiday flicks such as the National Lampoon’s Vacation, Roman Holiday, Weekend at Bernie’s and The Endless Summer.
