Bond 24 production to be delayed for script rewrites

June 27, 2014 by Scott J. Davis

Word from The Daily Mail today is that rewrites are needed on the script for Bond 24, which could cause a small delay on the start of production, but not necessarily affect the film’s release date. The site says that is likely the film will now start in December of this year, having originally been set to go in October. Whether this will have any impact on actors’ availability remains to be seen.

Since it was first announced, hopes have been high for the newest Bond adventure. Sam Mendes has been hired again to direct, after he delivered over $1 billion at the worldwide box office on Skyfall, and Daniel Craig will again portray 007, along with the returning Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny) and Ben Whishaw (Q). In addition, there was strong early round, particularly around Oscar season back in February, that Academy Award Nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) was reported to have been first choice to play the villain in the film.

Writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who previously penned Casino Royale and Skyfall amongst their five Bond collaborations, have been brought back onboard to add more humor, specifically: “the witty repartee between Daniel Craig’s 007 and Naomie Harris’s Miss Moneypenny, and focusing on the interplay between Bond and Ralph Fiennes’s M.” John Logan, who co-wrote Skyfall with Purvis and Wade, pennedthe first draft.

Bond 24 is scheduled to hit cinemas October 23rd 2015, with a US release on November 6, 2015.
