Simon Kinberg teases Alpha Flight and Exiles for future X-Men movies

March 3, 2017 by Gary Collinson

With Logan bringing the curtain down on Hugh Jackman’s time as Wolverine, it has been rumoured that 20th Century Fox will soon lay out its plans for the future of the X-Men franchise.

We already know that X-Men: The New Mutants, Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Supernova are slated to go into production this year, while Gambit remains a part of the studio’s slate. And now writer-producer Simon Kinberg has also hinted that we might soon be seeing Alpha Flight and The Exiles coming to the big screen.

“We have a sense of where each of all of the existing characters go from Deadpool to New Mutants to the mainland X-Men movies to potentially even X-23,” Kinberg tells Comic Book. “Then, there’s other characters, like Alpha Flight, like Exiles… There’s a lot of characters to mine going forward. We’re still sort of in this phase where now we’ve completed the Wolverine story with Logan and we begin hopefully with New Mutants and eventually Gambit and continue with Deadpool.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the characters, Alpha Flight is a Canadian superhero team working for Department H, whose original line-up featured Guardian, Northstar, Aurora, Sasquatch, Shaman and Snowbird. Exiles on the other hand features characters who have been pulled from time and space to correct problems – or “hiccups” in various alternate worlds and timelines; previous members have included Beast, Blink, Forge and Polaris.

Which properties would you like to see explored as part of Fox’s X-Men movie universe? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
