Warner Bros. wants The Legend of Tarzan writer for Suicide Squad 2

March 16, 2017 by Ricky Church

As Warner Bros. searches for a director for the sequel to Suicide Squad – even going so far as to offer Mel Gibson the job – it seems the studio is now close to hiring a writer for the script.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Adam Cozad has entered negotiations with the studio to pen the sequel. This wouldn’t be the first time Cozad was hired by WB as he previously wrote 2016’s The Legend of Tarzan for the studio.

Some of Cozad’s other writing credits include Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and an adaptation of the Valiant comic Bloodshot. Another of his upcoming projects is also Underwater over at Fox, with Kristen Stewart in talks for the lead role.

THR say that Suicide Squad 2 is a priority for WB since the first movie earned $745 million worldwide despite mixed reviews. However, the studio wants to focus on the story before committing to a director for the film.

As for original Suicide Squad director David Ayer, he may not be coming back for the sequel, but he is currently working on Gotham City Sirens. That film will focus on Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and the female villains and heroes of Gotham City. Elsewhere in the DC Extended Universe, WB is also looking to add a Nightwing solo movie helmed by The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay to their growing shared universe.
