Chris Evans open to extending his Marvel contract after Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4

March 24, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Last week a report surfaced online suggesting that Chris Evans is ready to hang up the shield following the end of his initial deal with Marvel Studios on Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel.

There has of course been plenty of speculation about Evans’ future in the MCU for several years now, stemming from the ‘Death of Captain America’ arc in the comic books, and the fact that Evans has expressed his desire to move into directing.

While this latest report didn’t have any direct quotes from the man himself, Evans has now revealed to Collider that he’s open to renegotiating his deal and extending his time as the Sentinel of Liberty.

“It’s really not up to me,” said Evans.” My contract is up. I’m not going to sit here and say, ‘No more.’ I think Hugh Jackman has made 47 Wolverine movies, and they somehow keep getting better. It’s a character I love, and it’s a factory that really knows what they’re doing. The system is sound, over there. They make great movies. If they weren’t kicking out quality, I’d have a different opinion. But, everything Marvel does seems to be cinema gold. And like I said, I love the character. The only reason it would end is ‘cause my contract is up. After Avengers 4, my contract is done. Talk to Marvel. If we engage further, I’d be open to it. I love the character. It’s almost like high school. You certainly always look to senior year, and then, all of a sudden, senior year happens and you’re like, ‘I don’t know if I’m ready to go.’ It’s tough thinking about not playing the guy.”

Even if Evans does extend his contract, it seems unlikely that we’d hear anything until after the release of Avengers 4 in order to keep up the suspense surrounding his fate in the two Infinity War movies.
