Brie Larson to play first female Presidential candidate in Victoria Woodhull

March 26, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Oscar-winner Brie Larson (Room) has signed on to produce and star as the lead in Victoria Woodhull, which tells the story of the first female candidate for the President of the United States. The film is being written by Ben Kopit (Libertine) for Amazon Studios.

The logline from Deadline reads: “Woodhull was a suffragist who became the first woman to run and be nominated for President of the United States in 1872, more than 40 years before women had the right to vote. She was a women’s liberator, non-conformist, conniver, narcissist, politician, and rebel. Her con-artist father taught her and her sisters to channel spirits in front of crowds to bilk the superstitious. These skills formed the start for an ambitious climb that would bring Woodhull from rags to riches and back again.”

Larson can currently be seen in cinemas in Kong: Skull Island and also leads Ben Wheatley’s new film Free Fire, which opens in the UK this coming Friday. Her upcoming roles include The Glass Castle, Basmati Blues and her directorial debut Unicorn Store, while she is also set to take on the role of superhero Captain Marvel, and is expected to debut in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War.
