With the UK release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set for this Friday, the cast is making their way through the interview rounds, including supporting players such as Karen Gillan, who stars as Nebula.
It’s well known by now that the she will join up with the Guardians in the sequel, as her relationship with her sister Gamora is explored, which is something that the actress has elaborated on in an interview with Digital Spy, as well as revealing that the character was originally supposed to die in the first movie.
“I definitely had a feeling that there was room for the character to expand in the future, but she was originally supposed to die in the first movie, I think I remember in the script,” said Gillan. “She obviously did not die, then I found out that she was coming back in the second movie and then I found out we got to explore all these amazing things about her past and her relationship with Gamora, her sister, so I was really happy.”

We can probably assume that Nebula won’t die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 either, seeing as Gillan has confirmed her involvement in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on April 28th 2017 in the UK and on May 5th in the States, with director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), Sean Gunn (Kraglin) and Laura Haddock (Meredith Quill) alongside new additions Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as Ayesha, Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight) as Ego the Living Planet, Chris Sullivan (The Drop) as Taserface, Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Tulik, Sylvester Stallone (Creed) as Stakar and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
