George Miller has gone on record as saying that he believes that the sequels to Mad Max: Fury Road will happen.
With the great success of the series’ return in 2015, both commercially and critically, the classic franchise was given a whole new lease of life and a whole new generation of fans to entertain.
Tom Hardy, the star of the film – replacing Mel Gibson – is absolutely keen on returning to the titular role for more apocalyptic antics, and now iconic director of the series, George Miller, has chimed in on the current status of the potential sequels.
Speaking with The Independent, Miller discussed how they came to write a trilogy of films while working on Fury Road.
“We dug down deep into the subtext, the backstory of all the characters, and indeed the world…and without really thinking about it, we wrote two other screenplays just as part of the bible of the stories. Somewhere, if the planets align, there will be two other films.”

So, it looks like we will have to cross our fingers a little to see if these movies get made, but at least the desire is there.
With Miller liking a lot of creative control, and using practical effects wherever possible, any Mad Max project is probably going to take a little while to get off the ground.
And with a busy actor like Hardy as your lead, scheduling will always be an issue, but hopefully not one that they can’t overcome sooner rather than later.
