Dark Universe revealed, Uncharted movie casting, Han Solo set video and more – Daily News Roundup

May 23, 2017 by Luke Owen

We would like to kick off today’s Daily News Roundup by sending out our best wishes to Zack Snyder and his family, and the victims of the Manchester attack. Stay safe and hug those close to you.

DARK UNIVERSE

Since its announcement, we’ve never really known what to call Universal’s Classic Monster’s Universe. It was a bit… clunky, you know? Well, the studio have announced we can officially call it The Dark Universe, and they also revealed Bride of Frankenstein will be the next entry following The Mummy. The studio released an image of the Dark Universe cast, which revealed Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein’s Monster. No word yet on whether Angelina Jolie has been cast as The Bride, which was rumoured last year. Read more here.

GOOD FEELINGS FROM HELLBOY

With news of a Hellboy reboot last week, original star Ron Pearlman has been rather silent and not shared his thoughts. However yesterday he broke his silence, wishing his Stranger Things replacement good luck. “David Harbour is a good dude,” he said. “I wish him nothing but the best when it comes to the retooling of Hellboy.” Read more here.

UNCHARTED-MAN

The video game adaptation Uncharted has gone through many iterations over the years, and was seemingly never going to get made. At one point it was going to be directed by David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook) with Mark Whalberg in the lead role (supported by Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci), which was then being re-written by Joe Carnahan (The A-Team). However since then, it was revealed Carnahan was leaving the project and his script is being “retooled”, focusing on a younger Nathan Drake to be played by Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming). Read more here.

NO-POST CREDITS? NO WONDER!

Since Iron Man in 2008, the idea of a post-credits sequence has become the Hollywood-norm. Seemingly every blockbuster has one now, and cinema goers have been conditioned to sit in their seats desperate to go to the bathroom waiting for the tease of future movies. However Wonder Woman producer Charles Roven has revealed there won’t be one on the upcoming DCEU movie saying, “I’m not going to say we’d never do one… There was one in Suicide Squad. But I don’t think that we want to feel that we’re forced to do something just because we didn’t in the past.” Read more here.

HAN SOLO SET VIDEO

Following on from the set photo from Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (not the official title) last week, we’ve got a new video from the set which shows the iconic smuggler in a podcar. Watch the video here.

HOWARD

Bring back Howard the Duck! Having made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the post-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014, Howard the Duck returned to the MCU last month with a brief cameo in Guardians Vol. 2, and illustrator Ryan Lang has now unveiled a piece of concept art for the cult favourite. Check it out here.

REVIEW OF THE DAY

Shawn Munro reviews Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (aka Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge) saying, “will please the hardcore lot and serves as a marginal improvement over the last two movies, in large part thanks to an appealing new female lead, but the end result still feels as much exhausting as it is entertaining.” Read the full review here.
