John Boyega says Finn is a “big deal” in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

May 24, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Actor John Boyega has talked about the status of his Star Wars: The Last Jedi character Finn calling him a “big deal” after the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Before the series’ return with The Force Awakens, audiences were a little unsure as to which of the two leading characters, Finn and Rey, would be the most pertinent to the story.

And while it turns out that Rey is the one gifted with the force and with seeming connections to the Jedi, Finn is by no means a bystander in the upcoming The Last Jedi according to John Boyega.

Speaking in a recent interview with EW, Boyega spoke to his character’s condition after fans saw Finn unconscious during the movie’s trailer.

“The funny thing is, between VII and VIII, Finn’s now a big deal! He is now a big deal. Imagine that – you get taken down by Kylo Ren. Think about what the gossip’s going to be like in the Resistance. ‘Oh, that’s the guy that got slashed down by Kylo?’”

It certainly makes sense; Kylo Ren was a pretty big deal himself and a serious threat to the galaxy during the time of Episode VII, and so with a regular Joe like Finn surviving an altercation with him, he is bound to impress his fellow Resistance friends.

Just how pertinent Finn ends up being to the larger story will remain to be seen.
