Prometheus screenwriter on where Ridley Scott’s next Alien movie could go

June 9, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Although Alien: Covenant failed to set the box office alight – having grossed just $176.5 million following its release last month – it seems that Ridley Scott still has plans to further explore the universe, with the filmmaker suggesting he’s keen on “one or two” more instalments in the sci-fi series.

Speaking to Collider, Prometheus screenwriter Damon Lindelof has been talking about where the franchise could go next based on his conversations with Scott as to the “end game” they envisioned when developing the 2012 Alien prequel.

“I think that one of the conversations that we had at the end of Prometheus is, Shaw and David have basically locked in on the coordinates of the planet where the Engineers came from. What does that place look like? Ridley called it ‘Paradise’. What happens when they land on that planet? It doesn’t feel like they’ve gotten there yet in Covenant, Covenant felt like it maybe was a detour prior to them arriving at the place of origin so I don’t want to spoil any place that he might still be wanting to go, but the conversations that he and I had about where the story goes next were largely about the place where the Engineers were from and less the events of Covenant.”

How do you want to see the Alien franchise proceeding? Or is it time for Ridley Scott to call it a day on the series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant sees Ridley Scott reuniting with Prometheus stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Guy Pearce, while new cast additions Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Demian Bichir (A Better Life), Billy Crudup (Watchmen), Jussie Smollett (Empire), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Benjamin Rigby (That’s Not Me), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), Tess Haubrich (The Wolverine) and James Franco (Why Him?).
