Lionsgate developing 2 Live Crew movie The Book of Luke

June 14, 2017 by Amie Cranswick

THR is reporting that Lionsgate is developing a movie based around the American hip-hop group 2 Live Crew, which is being scripted by Craig Williams (screenwriter of the upcoming Vince McMahon biopic Pandemonium) from the memoir Book of Luke: My Fight for Truth, Justice and Liberty City.

According to the site, The Book of Luke will “focus on 2 Live Crew manager/hype-man Luther Campbell, who found himself on the other end of a copyright lawsuit related to 2 Live’s music, known for its sexually explicit content. The case made it all the way to the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of Campbell and 2 Live Crew, establishing music sampling as a form of parody, thus falling under free use.”

The Book of Luke will mark Lionsgate’s second hip-hop biopic follow the release of the Tupac Shakur film All Eyez on Me, which opens in North America this Friday.
