Andy Garcia cast as Ricardo Montalban in HBO’s My Dinner with Herve

July 6, 2017 by Ricky Church

Andy Garcia has just been cast opposite Game of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage and Fifty Shades of Grey’s Jamie Dornan in the HBO film My Dinner with Herve. Per Deadline, the actor will portray Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan star Ricardo Montalban in the film based on the last few days of French actor Herve Villechaize.

Directed by Sacha Gervasi from a script he wrote with Sean Macauley, My Dinner with Herve explores the unlikely friendship that evolves over one wild night in LA between a struggling journalist and actor Hervé Villechaize, resulting in life-changing consequences for both. The story is based on Gervasi’s own experience interviewing Villechaize in 1993 just days before the actor committed suicide. Dinklage will star as Villechaize while Dornan will portray the fictional journalist Danny Tate as a stand-in for Gervasi.

Villechaize is known for his role’s as Christopher Lee’s henchman in the James Bond 007 film The Man with the Golden Gun and the television series Fantasy Island, of which Montalban was his co-star.

Dinklage and Gervasi have been working on the project since 2012, when Dinklage revealed to The New York Times: “[Gervasi] interviewed Hervé right before he killed himself. After he killed himself, Sacha realized Hervé’s interview was a suicide note.”

Also in the film will be Oona Chaplin (Taboo), Mireille Enos (World War Z) and Harriet Walter (Atonement).
