Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom wraps filming

July 9, 2017 by Justin Cook

Director J.A. Bayona and producer Frank Marshall have taken to Twitter to announce that principal photography on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the upcoming sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World, has concluded.

Bayona celebrated the end of the shoot by posting a gif of star Chris Pratt in full costume as Velociraptor trainer/expert Owen Grady, doing goofy hip exercises on the set of Jurassic World; Marshall brought fans behind-the-scenes with his post. Check out both down below…

This is a wrap for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom! What a journey! Thank you to everyone that made it possible. #JurassicWorldFallenKingdom pic.twitter.com/dtMsNDvZwP

Filming took place in England (primarily at Pinewood Studios) and Hawaii and lasted for roughly four-and-a-half months, beginning in late February.

Recently, set photos from the production surfaced, which offered up a glimpse of Pratt and co-star Bryce Dallas Howard as they got wet while shooting a scene on the beach.

While Fallen Kingdom will have a tough time topping the monstrous numbers that its predessor scored at the box office, it will still undoubtedly be a major commercial hit. Additionally, based on comments from writers, producers and talent involved with the project, the film sounds like it will be a bit bolder, creatively speaking, than Jurassic World, which drew criticism from some viewers for playing it safe. Playing to Bayona’s stengths, co-writer Colin Trevorrow described the film as a “Spanish horror-thriller with dinosaurs in it,” suggesting a sequel that brings the franchise in a new direction.

Trevorrow, who directed Jurassic World, has decided to take a lesser role this time around; as well as scripting alongside partner Derek Connolly, he is executive producing the sequel. He congratulated the Fallen Kingdom cast and crew by posting a picture of Bayona to Twitter.

Congratulations @FilmBayona, cast and crew. #wrap pic.twitter.com/hPrEfvCnaP

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is set for release on June 22nd, 2018 and sees J.A. Bayona directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, BD Wong and Jeff Goldblum alongside newcomers Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), Rafe Spall (Black Mirror), Justice Smith (The Get Down), Ted Levine (Silence of the Lambs), James Cromwell (The Young Pope), Daniella Pineda (The Detour) and Geraldine Chaplin (A Monster Calls).
