Star Wars: The Last Jedi director says Benicio Del Toro isn’t playing Ezra Bridger

July 17, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Of all the mysterious aspects of Star Wars: The Last Jedi so far, one of the greatest hotbeds for fan theory and speculation is just who Benicio Del Toro is actually playing. Among the possibilities from fans so far are a Fett, a Sith Lord, a member of the Knights of Ren, and even Ezra Bridger from the animated series Star Wars Rebels.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Ezra Bridger sort of walks the line of using his Jedi powers for good, fighting off the temptation to set off on the path of the Dark Side. Although this theory became less plausible once it was announced that the character was referred to as DJ during the production, some fans of the saga still maintained the thought that Del Toro could be Ezra.

Well, during an interview with Good Morning America director Rian Johnson shot down the speculation, saying that it is not the case:

Is Benicio del Toro playing Ezra from @StarWars Rebels? @rianjohnson says no, but "DJ" does stand for something…#TheLastJedi #D23expo pic.twitter.com/wHGPvvlaD5
