Game of Thrones director defends Ed Sheeran’s cameo

July 19, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Ed Sheeran’s Game of Thrones cameo has been defended by the director of the episode.

The world was alive with excitement for the premiere episode of Game of Thrones season 7, and once the episode arrived there was plenty for fans to sink their teeth into.

However, a certain cameo by pop star Ed Sheeran has caused some ire from audiences.

Sheeran only appeared briefly in the episode, singing around a campfire with some fellow soldiers. But it was enough to distract fans of the highly acclaimed fantasy series.

However, one person at least was a fan of Sheeran’s cameo, that being the director of the episode, Jeremy Podeswa.

“I think Ed did a lovely job — he’s a lovely actor and a lovely person,” Podeswa said to Newsweek. “He was appropriate for the part because he needed to sing. If people didn’t know who Ed was, they wouldn’t have thought about it twice.”

Sheeran isn’t the only musician to appear on the show throughout the years, with bands like Sigur Ros also making their way to Westeros. But for whatever reason, Sheeran’s cameo has caused the strongest reactions.
