Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will set the stage for the next 10 to 20 years of the MCU, according to James Gunn

August 23, 2017 by Jordan Jones

According to director James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a huge responsibility. Speaking to fans during a live Q&A on his Facebook page, he revealed that the events of Guardians 3 will be felt throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years to come:

“One of the things I’m doing with creating Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — it will take place after the next two Avengers movies — and it will help to set up the next 10, 20 years of Marvel movies. It’s going to really expand the cosmic universe.”

Ten, or twenty years!? The Marvel Cinematic Universe started in 2008 with Jon Favreau’s Iron Man. We have almost hit year 10, and it’s crazy to see where things have gone since; who honestly thought back in ’08 that we’d see a movie about The Guardians of the Galaxy? Or Doctor Strange? Hell, most people had no idea who Iron Man was at the time. It’s really hard to think what the MCU will look like in twenty years, but it looks like Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will set the stage.

While there is no set release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, we do know that the film will introduce the fan-favorite character Adam Warlock. Up next on the MCU roster is Thor: Ragnarok, which is set for release on October 27th in the UK and November 3rd in the States.
