Director Andy Muschietti details a key difference for It 2

September 4, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Early reviews are calling IT the best Stephen King adaptation to grace the screen in years. Stephen King himself was actually taken aback by just how good the movie ended up being. With that said, It 2 seems a sure thing at this point. So what will it be like? Director Andy Muschietti recently chatted with Yahoo! Movies and detailed a key difference for the inevitable sequel…

“Getting in to that other dimension — the other side — was something that we could introduce in the second part. In the book the perspective of the writing… is always with the Losers, so everything they know about Pennywise is very speculative and shrouded in absurdity, so I wanted to respect that mystery feeling of not knowing what’s on the other side… I also wanted to leave something for the second half, so I didn’t want to get in trouble with that — going into the macroverse or that transdimensional stuff — and keep it grounded, from the point of view of the kids.”

So it looks like the really trippy stuff is being saved for the sequel. It must be said though: this is the precise point in the TV miniseries when things began to fall apart and felt silly. Let’s hope that Muschietti can look to the book for guidance, or at least find a way to gracefully translate a climactic showdown in the Other Side to the big screen.

When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

It is set for release on September 8th, 2017, with Andy Muschietti directing Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove) as Pennywise alongside Jaeden Lieberher (St. Vincent), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chosen Jacobs (Cops and Robbers), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip), Owen Teague (Bloodline), Sophia Lillis (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Nicholas Hamilton (Captain Fantastic).
