George R.R. Martin thinks first Game of Thrones spinoff could premiere by 2019

September 27, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Earlier this year we were treated to the news that HBO, and series writer George R. R Martin are penning several spinoffs set in the Game of Thrones universe. Five, in fact. We know precious little, aside from the fact that the projects will only be given full focus once the main series is concluded.

However, we now have an idea of when the first spin-off will air; and it’s sooner than you think. Taking to his Facebook page to celebrate Bryan Cogman being added to the list of directors handling the planned spinoffs, Martin included this bit of speculation:

“You should not expect to see all five shows, though, at least not immediately.. much as I might love the idea, HBO is not about to become the Game of Thrones network… but we could possibly see two or even three make it to the pilot stage, with one series emerging on air in 2019 or 2020… and the others maybe later, if they come out as well as we all hope.”

It’s safe to say that most fans weren’t expecting to see a spinoff pop up so soon. The main series has not yet concluded, and the final season may very well air in 2019. Could this mean we may get two A Song of Ice and Fire stories in the same year? A man will have to wait to find out.
