Robert Englund wants Kevin Bacon to play Freddy Krueger in Nightmare on Elm Street reboot

September 28, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Horror icon Robert Englund has a dream-pick for who should play the next Freddy Krueger. Speaking to Cinema Blend, the Nightmare on Elm Street actor expresses his desire for a Freddy Krueger a bit more light on his feet:

“Well the gossip I’ve heard, and I don’t know how valid this is, but there has been some talk about using, or perhaps he’s been approached, Kevin Bacon. Yeah. I think that would be great. He’s in one of my favorite little horror movies, Stir of Echoes, and you should check it out if you haven’t seen in. And I just think Kevin’s the right size. I think he respects horror movies. He doesn’t make fun of them. I think it would be real interesting.”

After the 2009 remake starring Jackie Earle Haley, it’s quite surprising that New Line is even considering a reboot, but here we are. It has proven that horror remakes can absolutely work, though A Nightmare on Elm Street is hardly in need of fixing. Regardless, you can’t go wrong with Kevin Bacon. The actor is no stranger to horror with movies like Friday the 13th, Stir of Echoes, and even schlocky B-horror films ala Tremors. He’s charismatic, and has just the right balance of charm, and menace in many of his performances. Sounds a lot like Freddy.
