Eli Roth’s cannibal horror The Green Inferno pulled from release schedule

August 8, 2014 by Gary Collinson

If you were looking forward to seeing Eli Roth back behind the camera for the first time in six years, then it looks like you’re going to have a little longer to wait, with Open Road Films pulling the cannibal horror The Green Inferno from its release schedule with less than a month to go before before its planned date of September 5th.

According to Deadline, the reason behind the move is that the financier Worldview Entertainment has balked at former CEO Christopher Woodrow’s commitment to fund the P&A for the movie. At this point, it is unknown whether Open Road will set a new date for the movie, or if another distributor will step in to prevent it from going straight-to-video or VOD.

The Green Inferno sees Roth directing a cast that includes Lorenza Izzo (Aftershock), Ariel Levy (Aftershock), Daryl Sabara (Spy Kids) and Kirby Bliss Blanton (Project X), and follows a group of student activists who head to the Amazon to save a tribe from extinction and end up on the menu by the very cannibals they sought to protect.
