Roberto Orci gives Star Trek 3 script update

August 19, 2014 by James Garcia

Back in May we reported that writer and producer Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Cowboys & Aliens, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) would take the helm of the USS Enterprise and make his directorial debut with Star Trek 3.

Orci hasn’t officially signed on to direct the threequel, as he’s waiting to get the okay from Paramount, who need to see the script before they make their decision. On Saturday, we came a bit closer to that final decision as Orci confirmed that the first draft of the script is done, and that Paramount can now look at it and provide feedback.

He actually took to the comments section over at TrekMovie.com, and said the following:

“p & m & I wrote, “fade out” yesterday on first draft. things are moving.”

“P” and “M” are, of course, Orci’s co-writers John D. Payne and Patrick McKay. As long as their first draft is good, Star Trek 3 will move forward. Orci has stated that he would like shooting to begin next spring, in order for the film to arrive in theaters in time for Star Trek‘s 50th anniversary in 2016.
