Earlier this year it was announced that Hayao Miyazaki is coming out of retirement (again) to work on a new feature film, with Studio Ghibli re-opening its doors to work on the project.
Appearing on the NHK TV programme Nichiyobi Bijitsukan (Sunday Art Gallery) (via Kotaku), Miyazaki’s long-time producer Toshio Suzuki has revealed why the legendary animator decided he had another feature film in him.
“He [Miyazaki] said, ‘I’m making it for my grandson,’” said Suzuki, stating that Miyazaki’s grandson may say something like “’Grandpa passed into the next world, but he left this work.’ No doubt Ghibli fans are looking at the TV, blurting, ‘Hey! Wait a second. That’s the reason?!’”
So far, there’s been no official word as to what Miyazaki’s new film will be, but rumours have suggested that it will be a feature adaptation of Kemushi no Boro (Boro The Caterpillar), a short film he was working on for the Studio Ghibli Museum.
