Good Omens casts its Beelzebub and Horsemen

November 1, 2017 by Ricky Church

The adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens has just filled out several more of its cast.

The series has found three of four Horsemen of the Apocalypse as well as the ultimate demon Beelzebub for the Amazon and BBC Two series. Anna Maxwell Martin (Becoming Jane) will star as Beelzebub while Mireille Enos (The Killing) will play War, Lourdes Faberes (Knightfall) as Pollution and Yusuf Gatewood (The Originals) as Famine.

On Martin’s casting, Gaiman said “We already have a stellar cast, and now Anna Maxwell Martin will be the Beelzebub of our dreams. Well, nightmares.”

“A script this clever, this smart, this current is very rare,” said Enos. “How could I turn down playing one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse??? Especially with the incredible group who’s come together to make it. It’s going to be FUN!”

“It’s a gift for any actor to read such a brilliant story let alone be chosen to play a part in it!” Faberes commented. “I’m thrilled to be working with this incredible cast and crew, our genius director Douglas Mackinnon and showrunner Neil Gaiman, whose writing I have always been moved by.”

“I’m excited to be playing Famine – one of the Four Horsemen in what promises an apocalyptic adaption of Good Omens!” Gatewood also said of his casting.

As for the final Horseman of the Apocalypse, Gaiman was coy about Death, simply saying“We are hoping that Death will be played by…DEATH.”

According to the Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch – the world’s only totally reliable guide to the future, written in 1655, before she exploded – the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just after tea…

People have been predicting the end of the world almost from its very beginning, so it’s only natural to be sceptical when a new date is set for Judgement Day. This time though, the armies of Good and Evil really do appear to be massing. The four Bikers of the Apocalypse are hitting the road. But both the angels and demons – well, one fast-living demon and a somewhat fussy angel – would quite like the Rapture not to happen.

And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist…

Good Omens will air on Amazon Prime and BBC Two, and features a cast that includes David Tennant (Doctor Who), Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex), Jack Whitehall (Fresh Meat), Michael McKean (Better Call Saul), Miranda Richardson (Churchill), Adria Arjona (True Detective), Nina Sosanya (Marcella), Ned Dennehy (Peaky Blinders), Ariyon Bakare (New Blood), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Anna Maxwell Martin (Becoming Jane), Mireille Enos (The Killing), Lourdes Faberes (Knightfall), and Yusuf Gatewood (The Originals). It is slated to premiere in 2019.
