Aborted Justice League post-credit scene, Coco wins the box office weekend, Ben Mendelsohn wants to play Doctor Doom and more – Weekend News Roundup

November 27, 2017 by Luke Owen

NO LANTERNS…

No spoilers for the DC team-up movie Justice League here, but a new post from a Reddit (who claims to be VFX artist on the movie) has said that there was a post-credits scene planned which features the Green Lantern Corps. The scene would have seen Bruce Wayne being awoken in his lake house by a green light, with Kilowog and Tomar-Re then making an appearance. Read more here.

ELFMAN SCORED FROM STORYBOARDS

A lot has been said about the very troubled production of Justice League, and now composer Danny Elfman has dropped in his own nugget of information saying he scored most of the movie from storyboards. “I got the call from Joss very last-second,” said Elfman. “I got the call and it was, ‘You have to decide now and then go to work tomorrow.’ I had a lot of storyboards in place of action. There would be full scenes and then a five-minute sequence of storyboards. Honestly, it was like working on an animated film. I didn’t score any of the unused footage — the movie that came out is the movie I scored, it was just in very rough form.” Read more here.

COCO BEATS JUSTICE LEAGUE

After winning the box office last weekend, Justice League dropped around 60% this week in the domestic charts and was toppled by Pixar’s Coco. Coco‘s $71 million gave it the third best Thanksgiving opening ever, behind two other Disney efforts, Frozen ($93 million in 2013) and last year’s Moana ($83 million). A NEW DOOM?

Although it has yet to be confirmed who Ben Mendelsohn will be playing in Marvel Studio’s Captain Marvel, he has told Happy Sad Confused Podcast that a character he would like to play in the future is Victor Von Doom. “Doctor Doom is the greatest comic character of all time,” said Mendelsohn. “That’s a great role. The thing that’s appealing about Victor is the damage and trauma, the loss of the family, the wrong done to him and then the takeover, the revenge, and then the protectiveness of Latveria wrapped in that Cold War vibe. There’s something about the combination of that. What actually makes him great is his caring bit.” Read more here.

ANOTHER WAY OF THE SAMURAI

In some rather surprising news, writer-director Jim Jarmusch and star Forest Whitaker are gearing up for a return to the world of Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, with RZA – who starred in the cult film, as well as providing the score – revealing that a follow-up is in development. “We already have something written,” he said. “So maybe Ghost Dog will make its way back to the silver screen, or small screen.” Read more here.
