The reason why Warner Bros. didn’t delay Justice League after its production issues has reportedly been revealed.
With all that went wrong during production, with director Zack Snyder leaving playing a big role, some are surprised that Warner Bros. didn’t decide to delay the release of their marquee blockbuster.
Well, according to a report in The Wrap, WB president Toby Emmerich and CEO Kevin Tsujihara “wanted to preserve their bonuses they would be paid before the merger [with AT&T],” and were concerned that “if they pushed the movie, then their bonuses would have been pushed to the following year and they might not still be at the studio.”
The Wrap’s report also claims that at the highest levels of the studio, bonuses are awarded “for making good decisions,” so if delaying a film turned out to be the ‘right decision’ that executive could have been rewarded for it.
On the surface of things, this doesn’t seem like the kind of reasoning one would want behind big decisions of anticipated movies, and it does make one wonder, as Justice League hasn’t performed as expected, if any of those bonuses were ever handed out.
