Stan Lee weighs in on the possibility of a Black Widow movie

September 1, 2014 by James Garcia

Stan Lee’s actual involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is extremely limited, despite being cited as an executive producer on all the films. However, he is the granddaddy of the Marvel-verse, and still knows a bit of what goes on behind the scenes.

Lee is often asked by fans and reporters about the goings-on at Marvel, and was recently approached at Fan Expo Canada about a Black Widow solo movie. The character has had a role in three Marvel films so far, and actress Scarlet Johansson headlined the successful Luc Besson film Lucy earlier this year; which drastically increased the demand for a Black Widow movie.

Lee weighed in on the possibility of one happening by saying:

“We haven’t made a Black Widow movie but she’s been in some of our movies, and she will be featured more prominently as we move forward. And the chances are she will have her own movie because eventually all the superheroes are going to have their own movies. They are already working on Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and Black Panther, and there are others I am not allowed to talk about.”

That’s not exactly an endorsement for a Black Widow film, as Lee is saying that by default, the film will eventually happen. But, as we said, he has little to do with the overall MCU road map anyway.

The problem is, “eventually” is no longer an answer fans want to hear. We know that Game of Thrones director Neil Marshall is interested in helming a Black Widow movie, and the demand for one is certainly there. So, what’s the big hold-up? We’ll just have to wait and see.
