Ant-Man screenwriters join Highlander reboot

December 15, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Last November it was announced that John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 helmer Chad Stahelski had boarded Lionsgate’s long-planned Highlander reboot, and now it seems the project has enlisted new screenwriters.

According to Omega Underground, Ant-Man scribes Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari have signed on to work on the script for the remake of the 1986 fantasy, which is also reportedly looking to shoot in South Africa.

In addition to the Marvel sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, Barrer and Ferrari are also attached to the Russo brothers’ Quantum and Woody TV series, and have also scripted the drama Die in a Gunfight, which has Olivia Munn, Kaya Scodelario and Jush Hutcherson set to star.

A reboot of Highlander has been in development for the best part of a decade, with  Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) all attached to direct at one point or another, and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) having previously been attached to the roles of Connor MacLeod and The Kurgan respectively.
