Andrew Garfield says Spider-Man is “immaterial” to The Sinister Six movie

September 10, 2014 by James Garcia

Now that Sony has delayed The Amazing Spider-Man 3 until 2018, Andrew Garfield has some time to kill before jumping back into the wall-crawler’s red and blue spandex. We still don’t know much about the next film in Sony’s Spidey franchsie, The Sinister Six, but from the sound of it Spider-Man himself won’t play a very large role.

Garfield recently spoke with the Toronto Sun while promoting his upcoming film 99 Homes, and was asked about the current status of The Sinister Six and what role he may have in it: “I know more than I’m allowed to say right now. I can say I’m really excited about Drew Goddard, who’s going to be writing and directing The Sinister Six movie. And whether I’m involved in that or not is kind of immaterial.”

How can Spider-Man, or even Peter Parker’s, involvement in a Sinister Six film be immaterial? Honestly, it seems a bit odd that a movie featuring a team of Spider-Man villains would not include Spider-Man… but apparently Goddard has a plan that focuses more on the titular six members and their dynamic.

The Sinister Six is scheduled to hit theaters on November 11, 2016.
