Logan director James Mangold oversaw reshoots and post-production on The Greatest Showman

December 24, 2017 by Gary Collinson

According to Variety, Hugh Jackman and 20th Century Fox enlisted the aid of The Wolverine and Logan director James Mangold to help oversee reshoots and post-production on the newly-released musical The Greatest Showman.

The site reports that the studio became concerned that original director Michael Gracey – who was making his feature debut on the film – had become a little overwhelmed by the scope of the picture, and was struggling to call the shots on the $84 million-budgeted movie.

Nevertheless, Variety stresses that Gracey was not replaced on the film; instead, Mangold’s role was more advisory, and Gracey still directed all of the principal photography and reshoots, and was on set and in the editing bay at all times. Mangold’s input was still said to be extensive however, earning him an executive producer credit, and a seven-figure salary.
