After hearing her character’s fate in Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX pitch, Daisy Ridley was apparently moved to tears.
J.J. Abrams wasn’t always the director of the as yet untitled Star Wars: Episode IX, he was brought in to replace Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow in 2017.
Jurassic World helmer Trevorrow was apparently removed from the position for not working well with Lucasfilm but his concept for the sequel to The Last Jedi was apparently moving enough to bring a tear to the eye.
Saturday Night Live star Bobby Moynihan, speaking to Collider, has revealed what he witnessed at a SNL after party between Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Trevorrow at a time when the director still had the job.
“I was in The Book of Henry, the movie that Colin Trevorrow directed, and we talked about it a great deal. We’re both big fans, and I think one of the reasons he put me in the movie was because we hit it off talking about that.
“I introduced him to Daisy Ridley at the SNL after-party, the first time they had met. I saw a moment where she said, ‘What happens to me?’ And he said, ‘Do you want to do this now?’ And she said, ‘Yeah,’ and they went off into a corner of the bar and he whispered it into her ear and she was crying.

“I was like, I’m witnessing Star Wars history right now, and I remember being so amazed and feeling so wonderful and happy for Colin because he’s such a fan.
“I haven’t spoken to him since the news came out that he’s not doing it, but it kills me because I would’ve loved to see what he would have done with it because he was so passionate about it.”
It would certainly be interesting to hear what Trevorrow’s pitch to Ridley was and how Rey would have finished her story arc should he have remained director. Perhaps we will find out at some point and can contrast it to what is achieved by Abrams once the film releases in 2019.
