Aubrey Plaza cast as Grumpy Cat for TV movie

September 18, 2014 by admin

It seems that anything can be turned into a movie nowadays. It was announced earlier this year that Internet meme Grumpy Cat would be turned into a TV movie called Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever and now we have word of who will be voicing the miserable feline.

Parks and Recreation‘s Aubrey Plaza has been cast to voice Grumpy Cat for the TV movie, which will debut on Saturday November 29th on Lifetime. Yes, that’s right, Aubrey Plaza. Rather fitting really.

Jane Lynch (Glee, The 40 Year Old Virgin) was in line to voice Grumpy Cat, but has since rebuffed the gig following taking home an Emmy for Hollywood Game Night.

Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever tells the story of a pet-store cat that is always overlooked and a 12-year old girl named Chrystal who can communicate with her. The movie is directed by Tim Hill (Spongebob Squarepants) and will feature cameos from other Internet memes.

Grumpy Cat shots to “fame” in 2012 and has also had a book and a coffee product. There are even plans for a feature-length theatrical movie based on the cat by Broken Road Productions.

Aubrey Plaza will return to TV screens in Parks and Recreation and is currently starring in zombie comedy Life After Beth (read our review here).
