New trailer released for YumeNikki -Dream Diary-

February 1, 2018 by Andrew Newton

The original Yume Nikki gained a cult following after its release in 2004 and there’s certainly a mixed bag of feelings regarding the upcoming re-imagining that is YumeNikki -Dream Diary- which is set for release on the 23rd February.  The latest trailer from Active Gaming Media and Kikyama provides a glimpse at some of the environments players will find themselves venturing through.

YumeNikki -Dream Diary- is a re-imagining of the classic title and has been created in cooperation with the original creator, Kikiyama.  Capturing the same atmosphere of the original, this modern indie title combines influences from the original game and ideas and features from recent indie offerings to create something unique.  This latest title will feature brand new creatures that have only ever been seen in Kikyama’s imagination and design documents for the original title.

In its original form, RPG Maker darling YUME NIKKI was a divisively controversial work among fans. By contrast, YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY- is a collaborative show of the utmost respect for auteur Kikiyama’s seminal release.

The RPG Maker team at Kadokawa has paired up with Active Gaming Media’s development team of ardent YUME NIKKI fans to bring you this modern indie title in the form of YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY-. This diverging follow-up combines influences from the original game and other recent indie juggernauts to create something wholly unique.

YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY- was created under supervision and with the full cooperation from the original creator, Kikiyama themselves. We hope it will help to create a whole new wave of fans, as well as push the envelope in terms of what RPG Maker games can become.

Look out for more details on YumeNikki -Dream Diary- coming in the near future.
