Frank Oz doesn’t understand the backlash against Star Wars: The Last Jedi

March 31, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

At this point, it seems fair to say that Star Wars: The Last Jedi has become the most divisive instalment of the Star Wars saga. While the film certainly has its fans, Episode VIII has also come in for some very heavy criticism from some Star Wars fans. However, that’s not a viewpoint shared by Frank Oz, with the Yoda actor and puppeteer telling Collider that the backlash has left him confused.

“Yeah, there’s a whole backlash. I couldn’t understand that whole backlash. I didn’t get it. I thought it was a great piece of work. I never understood that backlash,” said Oz. “I’m somebody that works with the script, and if the script is there and I believe the script is organic and right for the moment and the character, then that’s kind of all I think about. I don’t think about extra powers or anything, I just go with it. I just don’t consider that really.”

Now that The Last Jedi has begun its home-entertainment release roll out, perhaps we’ll start to see more of a consensus between fans as we get a chance to revisit and reassess the movie…

…then again, maybe not.

In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi sees returning cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke), Peter Mayhew and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar), Mike Quinn (Nien Nunb) and Warwick Davis joined by new additions Jimmy Vee (Pan) as R2-D2, Kelly Marie Tran (Ladies Like Us) as Rose, Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy) as DJ and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park).
