Earlier today we heard that a TV series based around the Underworld franchise is in the works, and now it looks like two other movie franchises are set to make the jump to the small screen. According to Variety, Constantin Film is stepping up its TV production arm by developing TV adaptations of Resident Evil and The Mortal Instruments.
“We are increasing our TV activities substantially both in Germany and internationally,” said Constantin exec Martin Mozkowicz. “Constantin has a lot of feature film brands and we are moving them into television. For instance, we own the rights to the book series ‘The Mortal Instruments,’ and we just hired a showrunner in Los Angeles, and our offices in Los Angeles and Canada are starting production next year on at least two or three international shows.”
The Mortal Instruments TV series will help to soften the blow for fans disappointed that The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes was shelved last year, while it seems the Resident Evil series will go into production following the release of the oft-delayed Resident Evil 6.
