Anne Hathaway would love to play Catwoman again in the DC movie universe

November 7, 2014 by Gary Collinson

With Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel and a potential female-led Amazing Spider-Man spin-off on the horizon, it seems like we’re finally going to get a series of female superhero movies over the next few years, prompting IGN to ask Anne Hathaway if she’d have any interest in returning to her role as Selina Kyle from The Dark Knight Rises for a standalone Catwoman movie.

“I would be totally up for doing it, if Christopher Nolan was involved,” said Hathaway, whose latest film Interstellar reunites her with the director of The Dark Knight Trilogy. ““For me, the thing that made doing that part particularly fun was that she existed in his Gotham. Without him I don’t think it would be the same thing. But I also wonder about that part. If because she’s a thief, it’s not better to have her be a small part in a larger film.  So she can go through and steal aspects of the film. But when the focus is squarely on her, I don’t know if it works as well.”

Following producing duties on Man of Steel, it appears that Nolan’s involvement with Warner’s DC Cinematic Universe appears to be over, but that doesn’t seem to have put Hathaway off a potential return as Catwoman for a cameo in one of the upcoming DC movies:

“Oh yeah, that’d be fun. I’d definitely love that. I want to play her again. I don’t know – this is just speculation, because I do think about it sometimes – I think she’s got an amazing backstory and it would be great to see her get her own film. But I don’t know – she is someone who… mystery serves her well so I don’t know what a whole film would do. But who knows?”

It would seem the chances of Hathaway returning as Catwoman in the rebooted DC universe are slim, although Warner Bros. does reportedly want Tom Hardy for Suicide Squad, so who knows? Maybe we’ll see her back in some capacity…

Would you like to see another Catwoman outing for Anne Hathaway? Let us know your thoughts…
